Caitlin Sampaio Mulholland (PhD and Master’s in Civil Law from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, 2006 and 2002) is an Associate Professor of Civil Law in the Law Department at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). She teaches in the graduate program in Constitutional Law and State Theory at PUC-Rio and coordinates the Legalite research group at the university.

She is the author of the books A responsabilidade civil por presunção de causalidade (Civil Liability Based on Presumption of Causality) and Internet e Contratação: panorama das relações contratuais eletrônicas de consumo (Internet and Contracting: An Overview of Electronic Consumer Contractual Relations).

She has coordinated the books LGPD e novo marco normativo brasileiro (The LGPD and the New Brazilian Regulatory Framework) and Inteligência Artificial e Direito: ética, regulação e responsabilidade (Artificial Intelligence and Law: Ethics, Regulation, and Liability). She is a member of the Civil Law Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Rio de Janeiro Chapter, and the Special Commission on Data Protection of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association.

She is a member of the Brazilian Institute of Civil Law (IBDCivil) and the Association Henri Capitant des Amis de la Culture Juridique Française. She is a founding member of the Advanced Institute for Data Protection (IAPD) and the Brazilian Institute of Studies on Civil Liability (IBERC).

Her professional and research experience covers the following areas: fundamental rights, constitutional civil law, law and technology, law and artificial intelligence, personal data protection, and civil liability.
